If you were to sum up your Barcelona experience in one to two words, what would you say? My Barcelona Experience is…
Freeing
Explain why you chose those words.
For me, it was freeing to see who I am outside of the context of the United States and without constant guidance from family or friends. I became more independent, and I took this opportunity to see where I want to focus on improving myself (responsibility, confidence, willingness to ask for help, etc).
What was your favorite place to eat in Barcelona? Favorite food?
My favorite place to eat was my homestay, because I was guaranteed good company *and* good food. My favorite dish is probably tortilla española.
What was your favorite tour, day trip, or cultural activity? Why?
I think my favorite cultural activity was the flamenco class. The teacher had great energy, and I felt like the activity helped us grow closer as a group. I don’t usually like dancing, but this was a lot of fun and judgement free.
Is there a site in Barcelona that you would recommend to future students that may be a little more “off the beaten path”?
Barrio de Vallcarca, definitely. You’ll likely see a lot of anti-tourist sentiment, but I think it’s important to know that it’s there any why. They also have great murals and gardens, and its a great location for people watching (not super crowded or touristy to my knowledge).
