It was eye-opening as well as something I never thought I’d be able to experience.

What was your favorite place to eat in Barcelona? Favorite food?

My favorite food was patatas bravas or pan con tomate.

What was your favorite tour, day trip, or cultural activity? Why?

I really enjoyed going to Morocco, as I felt like it was the most meaningful excursion to go on. I even had the chance to go back again, but I went to Tangier and I was glad we went to Rabat and Chefchauen. I enjoyed talking to the Moroccan students the most and wished we had more time to hang out with them.

What is one piece of advice that you have for future students coming to Barcelona?

To come in with an open mind, especially when it comes to the food. For instance, I had hosted two international students before coming here, which I felt was beneficial as it taught me what to expect culturally – but I had no idea how different the food was from what I was used to. I admittedly came with a bit of an attitude against trying new things, as I am normally a picky eater and don’t like fish – but then I went to a fresh seafood market and ended up trying a type of fish that I ended up liking. I lived with a host family, so I made it a point to try every food that they prepared for me – and if I didn’t like it, that was okay because trying it was the biggest thing. Keep an open mind, and you’ll find out things about yourself that might surprise you!
