Mi experiencia haciendo prácticas en Barcelona SAE fue estupenda, ya que convivía con personas de diferentes culturas y aprendía a adaptarme a una cultura muy diferente a la de mi país.
Realmente yo recomendaría vivir esta experiencia porque es una oportunidad maravillosa, de la cual se aprende muchísimo y no se te olvidará esta etapa a lo largo de tus aventuras. El equipo de Barcelona SAE te apoya en todo momento – se preocupan de que todo esté correcto y que quedarás contento con tu experiencia ya que te ayuda a crecer como persona. Profesionalmente por mi parte, ha sido una experiencia muy positiva. El equipo de SAE quiere que puedas aprender, atreverte, y a superarte día tras día. Tienen muy buenos personales y cada uno usa su rol de buena manera y en el caso de mis prácticas en marketing, todos estuvieron muy presentes para brindarme una extra ayuda. Siento que aunque ellos tienen sus propios trabajos y actividades extracurriculares, están muy pendientes de tus necesidades y siempre quieren ser parte de tu experiencia.
My experience interning with Barcelona SAE was great, I was able to interact with people from different cultures and I learned to adapt to a culture that is very different from that of my own country.
I would really recommend living this experience because it’s a wonderful opportunity from which you learn a lot and it’s an experience you’ll never forget throughout your life’s adventures. The Barcelona SAE team is there to support you at all times – they make sure that everything is going well for you and that you’re happy with your experience, as it helps you to grow as a person. In my case, from a professional standpoint it has been a very positive experience. The Barcelona SAE team wants you to learn, push yourself out of your comfort zone, and grow every day. They are all very good at their roles and in my case, during my marketing internship they were all very helpful and willing to lend me a hand. I feel that even though they have their own jobs and lives, they are very attentive to your needs and they want to make a positive impact on your experience.
Cuando llegué a Barcelona venía con 3 propósitos, dentro y fuera de mis prácticas con Barcelona SAE, por el cual me siento muy feliz de haberlos culminado. Mis objetivos eran:
When I arrived in Barcelona I had 3 goals for myself, inside and outside of my internship with Barcelona SAE, for which I’m very happy to have completed them. These goals were:
1. Obtener nuevos conocimientos en el área de marketing. Siendo pasante, colaboraba en el equipo de marketing de Barcelona SAE. Era una valiosa contribución que me ayudaba a desarrollar, ampliar, y mantener una nueva perspectiva de los canales de marketing. Aprendí muchísimo de los ámbitos de marketing en desarrollar las tareas administrativas diarias, promociones de marketing y publicidad, trabajar en equipo, ser más creativa, y por último (y el que más se me dificultó) fue el uso de las redes sociales, ya que personalmente no estoy en constancia con mis propias cuentas. La realidad es que las redes sociales se hacen cada vez más presentes y los profesionales se deben aprender a utilizarlas a favor de los objetivos de su sector y el plan de comunicación de su empresa. Bajo este contexto, saber cómo funcionan, estar atento a las tendencias, detectar cuáles son las más interesantes para el público objetivo, y saber desarrollar campañas y anuncios son puntos esenciales para atraer y fidelizar la audiencia.
1. Obtain new knowledge in the area of marketing. While interning, I worked with Barcelona SAE on the marketing team. It was a valuable contribution that helped me to develop, expand, and maintain a new perspective on marketing channels. I learned so much about marketing through helping out with daily administrative tasks, marketing promotions, working on a team, being more creative, and lastly (and the one that was most difficult for me) was using social media. Although personally I’m not consistent with my own accounts, the truth is that social networks are becoming more and more present and professionals should learn to utilize them in favor of the goals of their industry and the communication plan of their company. In this context, knowing how they work, being aware of trends in social media, detecting which are the most interesting for your target audience, and knowing how to develop campaigns are essential to attracting and retaining your audience.
2. Adaptarme a una nueva cultura. Uno de mis mejores miedos era no saber cómo adaptarme a una nueva cultura, y aun más sabiendo que viajaría sola en esta nueva oportunidad. Pero pude encontrar nuevas formas de disfrutar la experiencia en mi misma compañía. Creo que estar en Barcelona me hizo crecer como persona, mantener mi carácter, y sentirme segura en todo momento. Siendo sincera, a mis inicios me refugiaba mucho en las prácticas, ir a casa leer, y estar allí el resto del día. Pero mientras pasaban los días pude sentirme más tranquila y solía salir un poco más de mi zona de confort. Empecé a salir sola y ir a la playa todos los días después de terminar mis practicas. Finalmente el equipo de Barcelona SAE y mis amigos me daban motivos para disfrutar más mi estancia en BCN y aprender a conectar con personas nuevas.
2. Adapt to a new culture. One of my biggest fears was not knowing how to adjust to a new culture, and even more so knowing that I would travel alone in this new opportunity. But I was able to find new ways to enjoy the experience on my own. I think that being in Barcelona made me grow as a person, maintain my character, and feel confident at all times. Being honest, in the beginning I took refuge in going to my internship and then going straight home to read and spend the rest of the day there. But as the days went on, I started to feel more comfortable and I could go out of my comfort zone a bit more. I started to go explore the city on my own and I would go to the beach almost every day after my internship. The Barcelona SAE team and my friends gave me reasons to enjoy my stay more and learn to connect with new people.
3. Aprender de la cultura española y aprender cómo sobrellevar la vida diaria en Barcelona. España es un país con una mezcla de culturas muy interesante donde se mezclan las diferentes costumbres, creencias y tradiciones. Personalmente no me dio mucha dificultad, pero sin embargo, hay algunas costumbres que yo no fui capaz de adaptarme. Por ejemplo, dar dos besos en la mejilla para saludar o despedirse de las personas. Se me hacia incomodo porque en mi cultura no lo hacemos y mucho menos cuando son personas desconocidas. El diario vivir en Barcelona me gusta porque no se vuelve monótono y tienes muchas oportunidades para salir, conocer, saber más sobre la historia, y conocer nuevas personas de diferentes culturas. Su transporte público es muy fácil y barato para el uso diario y también se puede caminar por toda la ciudad. Barcelona tiene un paisaje variado ya que se encuentra en la orilla del mar y está a la vez rodeado de montañas. Hay miles de rutas de bici y senderismo que puedes realizar en los alrededores del área metropolitana, como subir la montaña de Montserrat (una experiencia increíble) y así mismo no pasarás un fin de semana aburrido.
3. Learn about Spanish culture and get used to daily life in Barcelona. Spain is a country with a very interesting mix of cultures in which different customs, beliefs, and traditions are all mixed together. Personally, I did not have much difficulty in this. However, I should note that there are certain customs that I found myself unable to adapt to. For example, giving two kisses on the cheek to greet or say goodbye to people. It made me uncomfortable because in my culture we don’t do it, especially when they are strangers. I loved daily life in Barcelona because it was never boring and you have so many opportunities to go out, explore the city, learn about its history, and meet new people from different cultures. The public transportation is very easy and cheap for daily use, and the city is also very walkable. Barcelona has a varied landscape since it is located on the coast and it’s also surrounded by mountains.There are tons of cycling and hiking routes that you can do in the surrounding area, like climbing the mountain of Montserrat (an incredible experience). In other words, you’ll never be bored in Barcelona.
Finalmente, con mi experiencia estoy agradecida y feliz de haber sido parte del equipo de marketing de Barcelona SAE y de una nueva cultura que aunque se me dificultó adaptarme al nuevo ambiente, aprendí a confrontar algunos miedos y atreverme a nuevos propósitos y nuevas enseñanzas. Ha sido una etapa en mi vida que me ayudó a superarme como persona y ver todo de una manera muy diferente.
In conclusion, I’m so grateful for and happy with my experience being a marketing intern with Barcelona SAE and being part of a new culture that, although it was difficult for me to adapt to the new environment, I learned to confront some fears and put myself out of my comfort zone. It has been a stage in my life that helped me to grow as a person and see everything in a very different way.
